2011 Lamborghini LP570-4: Super Veloce or Superleggera?
There are conflicting stories making news this week, but both sources have backed up their arguments with some very enticing renderings of how their thoughts on the next evolution of the Lamborghini Gallardo might look.
Over at Lambocars.com, sources are claiming that a new model called the LP570-4 SV, or Super Veloce, will debut. From what we can tell of the rendering, much of its changes would come from the new hottest Murcielago, the LP670-4 SV. Those alterations include a large rear wing, larger scoops on the front bumper and behind the doors, and an "SV" script behind the front wheels. This direction might make sense for Lamborghini to avoid using the same name twice on what are essentially two extreme versions of the same basic car. Surely owners of this new model wouldn't want to say they have a Superleggera and have someone think they own that boring, underpowered model that's now a few years old.
Another thought is that the Superleggera name is a good one, and with the Gallardo's mid-cycle refresh to create the LP560-4 comes a new opportunity for a second coming of that car. Rival Ferrari didn't carry the Stradale name over from its 360 to its F430, however, so Lamborghini may feel like it shouldn't be recycling the same name in one product line, either. Teamspeed.com, which published the rendering of the yellow car above, predicts that whatever the car is called, it will be 70 kg lighter than the LP560-4, 10 hp more powerful, and will run from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. If they're to be believed, the Superleggera they're predicting will be offered in orange, lime green, yellow, black, white, and gray, with the Italian flag colors and Superleggera script down the side.
