Mini Challenges Porsche to Race at Road Atlanta. Really.
Yes, you read that correctly. Mini USA President Jim McDowell has released a video challenging Porsche USA to bring a 911 and a driver to Road Atlanta later this month (June 21 to be specific) for a race. McDowell, a former Porsche USA employee and previous owner of 12 different Porsche models, expresses his respect for the brand's vehicles, making it even harder to believe that he thinks his little Cooper has a chance. He's gone so far with this challenge that the company's marketing department took out a full page ad in the New York Times.
According to Jalopnik.com, Porsche is actually considering the offer. "Porsche has the most racing victories of any manufacturer out there — 28,000 and counting — maybe we should go for 28,001," Steve Janisse, Porsche's Media Relations Manager, told the website. "We just need to see what they're up to." Indeed you do, Steve. It seems like Mini is looking to pull a fast one here somehow. Or this is all one big trick just to get people saying "Mini" and "Porsche" in the same sentence, regardless of the result. Wait, did we just say those two names in the same sentence? Well darn, we've been had.
