Ferrari Raises $601,000 for Haitian Relief
It's never a bad party when John Mayer is playing the music and people like Patrick Dempsey and Michael Bay are walking around with hors d'oeuvres in hand. What could be better? How about the first Ferrari 458 Italia in the country as the center of attention, and more than half a million dollars raised for Haitian disaster relief.
Last night Ferrari hosted a grand, Hollywood-style charity event at the Fleur de Lys Hotel in Los Angeles to raise funds for the relief efforts in Haiti. In total, $601,000 was raised. The A-list crowd of more than 500 guests had the opportunity to bid such rare treasures Ferrari Formula One driver Fernando Alonso's racing suit and two chances to work as Scuderia team members during the 2010 Canadian Gran Prix. But the gem of the auction was the very first Ferrari 458 Italia to come into the country.
Funds will be distributed to two organizations with substantial records for social responsibility and results. The Catholic Medical Mission Board and the William J. Clinton Foundation will work to help rebuild Haiti and to bring medical care to communities there. Additionally, the University of Modena, with which Ferrari has a long relationship, will offer assistance and resources to the CMMB to aid in training the Haitian medical community.
